ktvu channel 2 morning news tara moriarty is there with the details of what happened, tara? >> reporter: well, we were inside the building and there is a really strong smell of smoke and a lot of water all over the floor but all of the residents are safely back inside. it all happened shortly after 2:00 at the lakeshore care facility which is off care street and wayne. a portable linen cart caught fire and crews quickly moved it out of the building and contained the fire. >> it contained the fire and did not extend to any of the buildings. it did not affect any of the rests. >> now this is not the first time a fire has happened here. just 11 days ago, residents had to be evacuated after flames broke out near the laundry room. residents were forced to live in the hospital until repairs were complete. we understand the cause of that fire was electrical but still no word on the cause of this fire. right now oakland police officers are right here on the scene and they have been asking a couple of questions and they are currently on the phone with the fire department so hopefully

tara moriarty tells us about the many questions that surround the tragic crash. tara. >> reporter: the chp doesn't know exactly what caused the crash. we do know it happened here near the foster city boulevard exit. it created quite a traffic jam last night. we're standing several yards away from the actual scene of the accident. but when we drove by earlier, we could see there was still a down power pole. this happened last night shortly before 10:00. investigators shut down two lanes of eastbound 92 and three hours after the driver of what looks like a silver car slammed into the guardrail. the car knocked over a utility pole and a box. the vehicle was virtually unrecognizable after the crash. five people were inside. two people were pronounced dead at the scene. >> it appears the vehicle was traveling in the number three lane. it lost control of the vehicle. and over turned when it hit the rail. >> reporter: now one person did receive minor injuries and another person walked away unharmed. it is not known how many of the victims were actually wearing seat belt

let's go to tara moriarty who is there on the scene with more details. good morning, tara. >> reporter: it's a little hard to hear you out here because it's so noisy. we're on the university avenue overpass. i don't know if you can see where the flashing lights are. that is the westbound direction. on the other side is where the accident happened it looks like all lanes are clear. but if we take a look at the video we shot a couple minutes ago you can see there is a charcoal gray colored car. it hit the center divider. the car spun out right near the ash by avenue exit and another car came along and broadsided it. two more cars were involved in the crash. four cars total. we understand the driver of the initial car is a male driver. he was transported to a nearby hospital. we don't know the extent of his injuries. if you look at the video you can tell he got hit pretty badly there. initially the chp issued a sig alert. three lanes of track were blocked off. it looks like just as of a couple minutes ago all the lanes are back open. so a commuter should be
